Security Certificate Errors

When accessing some databases through the AU Library, you may encounter screens such as:

For Internet Explorer:


OR

For Firefox:

OR

For Google Chrome:

 

These warnings will come up when going to sites that use “secure authentication” or starts with “https://”. In these cases, there is really not a problem; it is just that current web browsers are not programmed to interpret the URLs that we have to use in order for users to access secure sites through our proxy server. Below, you will find instructions on how to get to the databases from these warning pages.

Troubleshooting Security Certificate Errors: Internet Explorer

1) Click on “Continue to this website (not recommended)”.

2) You will be taken to the site and you can continue using the database.

Troubleshooting Security Certificate Errors: Firefox

 1) You have to tell Firefox to bypass security certificate warnings. On the warning page, click “Advanced".

2) The box will expand. Click "Add exception...".

3) The Add Security Exception dialog box will appear. Click “Get Certificate.” Under Certificate Status, read the text describing the problems with this site.
Make sure the box is checked next to “Permanently store this exception.” Click “Confirm Security Exception” if you want to trust the site.

4) You can then use the database.

 1) You have to tell Google Chrome to bypass security certificate warnings. On the warning page, click “Advanced".

2) The box will expand. Click "Proceed to".

3) You can then use the database.
