Searching for phrases

Phrase Searching

Sometimes it is necessary to search for a phrase when looking for resources on a topic. Databases allow you to search for phrases in different ways. Some databases allow you to enter the terms as shown below:

teenage suicide

However, other databases require that you enclose terms in quotation marks.

"teenage suicide"

If you are not sure which strategy is used in the database you are searching, be sure to check the database Help files.

If you find that after using the strategies above you have still not found enough information, consider searching for the phrase as separate terms:

teenage and suicide
